Isabel de Castro Guimarães lectures Economic Sociology to undergraduate students of Economics and Management. Her research interests concern labour market processes and employability. Isabel holds a PhD in Sociology awarded by the School of the Social Sciences of The University of Manchester and a master degree in Sociology of Work from ISCTE, Lisbon. She has conducted research on transitions from the university to the labour market of law and management graduates. Isabel was also part of the team that created and managed the Career Services at the Catholic Portuguese University in Porto, from 1995 to 2002.
Area of Research
Current specific research interests are:
Using social network analysis and multiple correspondence analysis explore and understand transitions from higher education to the labour market; Empirically examining recruitment and selection practices, as well as related notions of skill and employability; The consequences of economic rationality (logics, values, principles) in contemporary society.

Projects
As part of her doctoral project, conducted research on the influence of social networks on transitions and access to law and management careers among graduates from three universities in Porto. The research also focused on recruitment and selection practices within medium- and large-sized corporations and law firms.
